Mercado is a Mexican-themed location full of a variety of shops and bar that first opened its doors in 2020. Unfortunately, the pandemic forced it to close, but the business pivoted to online sales. In 2021, Mercado returned to its local location, offering a unique shopping experience  of assortments of Mexican products, clothing, jewelry, fabrics, and ceramics as well as handpicked goods and delicious food and drinks.

El Mercado deliberately embraces its hidden nature, making it a bit challenging to locate.

Nestled at the rear of Mercado Weslaco, is  a bar that requires customers to traverse a hallway lined with mini-stores showcasing various Mexican merchandise before reaching Cantina La Campana.

Owners, Steve Valdez and Walkiria Alvarez Valdez, have intentionally created an air of mystique around their establishment.

"The idea was to take a journey through the market to discover the cantina," explained Valdez. "A secret Mexican speakeasy."

The Mercado strives to contribute to this endeavor. Its six vendor shops, along with the Cantina, offer a delightful assortment of Mexican products, clothing, jewelry, fabrics, and ceramics—a fusion that adds character and diversity to the local scene.
